Luella Chavez D’Angelo is the chief communications officer for The Western Union Company. Reporting directly to the CEO, Luella is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic communication and corporate social responsibility strategy for the company’s growing array of products and delivery channels. In addition, she oversees the Western Union Social Ventures department, as well as the Western Union Foundation, together with its Board of Directors.
Luella has been with Western Union since 2000, when she was appointed the inaugural director of what was then the First Data Western Union Foundation. During her tenure as Western Union Foundation president, through 2012 she built a high-impact organization, distributing nearly $90 million in support to more than 2,500 nonprofit, nongovernmental organizations in 130 countries.
In her former role as SVP of Social Ventures, Luella transformed Western Union’s thought leadership and communications strategies. She has been a driving force in positioning Western Union as a purpose-driven brand, advancing its shared value strategies for greater social and business impact.
Prior to joining Western Union, Luella served as chief marketing director for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and director of marketing for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. She also served as vice president of Institutional Development for the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.
Luella received the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce. She holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing management and a master’s in Business Administration, with an emphasis on finance, from the University of New Mexico.
